The brand new book by photographer Angèle Etoundi Essamba is made to puzzle us. In a lush universe which combines the real and the unreal, where elegance and refinement rhyme with femininity and sensuality, colors, shapes and lines, volumes and substance vibrate altogether to offer us the message of the beauty of the world. These images combine tradition and modernity, timelessness and universality. It is not only the veil but also the scarf, the draped and the loincloth, the weaving, the embroidery and the dye which are emphasized here, which become finery outlining the body and transforming it, giving it another life. Through the way they dress up, they express a whole identity and, beyond the religious or esthetic value embodied by the veil, these images mainly aim at becoming the basis for a reflection around exclusion and generate a free look allowing us to open our eyes on the world and on ourselves.Angèle Etoundi Essamba, fine art photographer originating from Cameroon, has been living and working in Amsterdam for years, there she was trained at the Nederlandse Fotovakschool (Dutch professional photography school). Since her first exhibition back in 1985 at the Maison Descartes in Amsterdam, many others have followed in Europe, Africa and the United-States. The human being, especially Woman, is a central theme in her work. A free woman that does not live by stereotypes.
Pauline Terreehorst (Netherlands, 1952) has been since April 2005 Director of the Centraal Museum of Utrecht, The Netherlands. Added to her contributions as a journalist, art reviewer and fashion editor, she is also the author of 15 books on photography, film, fashion, new media, ICT and city planning and future scenarios.Ananda Devi (Mauritius, 1957) is a central figure and one of the most prolific from the Indian Ocean. Ethnologist, she work as a translator, she is interested in the interweaving of identities and languages.
Houria Abdelouahed (Morocco, 1963) as been working since 1999 as a Lecturer at the Denis Diderot Paris VII University, Social and Clinical Studies Section and teaches psychopathology and psychoanalysis. Houria also works as a translator.

Pauline Terreehorst (Pays-bas, 1952) est depuis avril 2005 directrice du Central Museum d’Utrecht (Hollande). En plus de ses contributions en tant que journaliste, critique d’art et rédactrice de mode, elle est également auteur de 15 livres sur la photographie, le cinéma, la mode, les nouveaux média, technologie de l’information et de la communication et aménagement urbain et scénarios du futur.
Ananda Devi (Ile Maurice, 1957) est considérée comme une figure centrale et des plus prolifiques de l’océan Indien. Ethnologue de formation et traductrice de métier, elle est sensible à l’imbrication des identités et des langages.
Houria Abdelouahed (Maroc, 1963) est depuis 1999 maître de conférences à l’Université Paris VII Denis Diderot, UFR Sciences humaines cliniques et enseigne la psychopathologie et la psychanalyse.Houria est aussi traductrice.
